Batman: Arkham Knight

Vehicular Man-severely-injure-but-NOT-slaughter

Did you like the previous Batman: Arkham *insert noun* games? Well then you can probably guess how you’ll feel about this one. Rocksteady’s magnum opus for the Caped Crusader does a good job of not fixing what isn’t broke, and also managing to find one or two new things in the Batman universe it hasn’t wrung for nostalgia to throw into a game.

Full disclosure: I’ve played Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, but NOT Arkham Origins (made by a different developer than the other Arkham games), so when I reference “the other games” I speak only to those two games. Apparently, so does Rocksteady, who considers this game the end of a “trilogy”.

(I am going to do a little spoiling here and there to set the stage for you, so …

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

under rated

Contrary to popular belief, advanced warfare boasted more potential then the fanbase gave it. Most of these COD fans very much disliked this game because of the exo movement . Simply because they either didn't know how to use it properly, or because they couldn't kill the people who DID use it properly. Simple COD fan nature:
Dislike a game because of a novelty mechanic that they don't know how to use.

Child of Light

repetitive gameplay...

After seeing one of my favorite youtubers playing this, I decided to try it for myself on the vita. I definitely enjoyed it, no doubt about that. The problem was that it's gameplay got very repetitive, very fast. Normally, after completing an RPG game, you lust for more and go for challenges. but after I beat THIS game, I didn't want anything to do with it anymore. I had my fill. I thought it was great, the artstyle and music was very original, don't get me wrong. but a little went a long way with that, and I certainly thought it was worth the $15 USD at Gamestop.

Magicka

Bork bork wizard bork bork

People often talk about “easy to learn, difficult to master” video games. It’s a good ideal to strive for, because it indicates a combination of accessibility and depth at the same time.

Not as many people talk “difficult to learn, difficult to master” games. For obvious reasons. This generally just comes off as difficult and off-putting. To anything other than a masochist, it’s hard to make this sort of thing sound appealing.

Which, I guess, worked to my benefit. I had no idea what I was getting into with Magicka, and if someone had told me about it, I don’t know if I would have given it a shot. I’m going to try to toe the line between explaining the difficulty of the game to you without simultaneously turning …

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Welcome to the Masquerade

As a child, I never had the chance to play majoras mask. Heck I didn’t even beat Ocarina of Time until 2010. But it’s always been a game I’ve heard plenty of good things from. So I purchased the game for the N64, and played through half of it, only to drop it after the half way point and sell it along with the rest of my N64 stuff. However after beating Ocarina of Time 3D in 2012, I had the feeling that it would only be a matter of time until a remake would surface. Especially after Majora’s mask’s cult following, including the BEN Drowned creepypasta.
So after almost 15 years, does Majora’s Mask still stand tall? Does it fill the shoes left by Ocarina of Time? And did Nintendo do the game justice in a 3ds remake. To put it …

Bravely Default

Yeah, I said it: Episode XIII

I don’t care for where the Japanese RPG has gone in recent years. Japanese RPGs used to be about story and characters and drama and music and art and… I swear, anymore is just feels like these games are getting made as an excuse to design insane hairdos and dress computer animated women up in ridiculous outfits because they can’t get REAL women to wear them.

It didn’t need to be like this. I blame Final Fantasy VII, but that’s for a different time.

A while ago, someone decided that the turn-based RPG was just too boring, and that they should stop being made entirely. I don’t get it, because I loved those games. I understand that with our mighty CPUs, we have flashier ways of detailing combat than two opposing parties …

Injustice: Gods Among Us

Lots Of Comic Book Fun

I like comic books so this game was up my alley. I read more Marvel than DC but I read a lot of DC back when I was a kid. I only really played through the story mode because I am not much of a fighting game person but it was fun. It is classic fighting mechanics and often came down to some button mashing but I got most of the primary moves down pretty well by the end. I really enjoyed playing all the DC characters. It was fun to fight as Batman, Superman Green Lantern, ect. The story in the story mode was also really fun. The cross dimensional story line allowed for some fun, Batman vs Batman and other same character fights. I am not incredibly good at fighting games so it's scaling difficulty factor made the game much more fun for me. …

God of War: Ghost of Sparta

God of War Through and Through

I played this on the PS3. It looks really nice and was fun to play. It is a classic God of War game, not much different then the others. That is not a bad thing though. If you enjoy the God of War game like me then this is a fun game to play. If you are not a fan of God of War then I would avoid it because it is just more of the same. If you have not played any God of War game I would recommend starting with one and going from there. They are really fun games if you enjoy hack and slash. They are also all pretty short so you can get through them in a few days if you put your mind to it.

Project X Zone

Project Clusterf#$%

Oh boy… Honestly I have no idea why I picked up this game anymore. And I’ll be honest, I don’t have the heart to finish it. Even near the end at about 45 hours in. But dear lord, this game is just a drag. I suppose the premise itself would lead one to wonder what entails in this MASSIVE crossover between Capcom, Bandai Namco, and Sega. Though after playing this, I think it might be too big for its own good.
Project X Zone, is a tactical rpg, kinda like fire emblem, except when the mechanics come in. Aside from health and EXP you have, XP which are used for skills and special attacks when you engage in combat with enemies. These play out like a kind of simplified fighting game. Each character team, or unit as the game calls them, …

Metroid

Do Metroids Suck Out Energy...Or Time?

My first review for the site, I chose Metroid because of its well-known replayability and the sheer size of the game, allowing me to demonstrate my ability to rate a game. Before I start, though, one quick thing: my rating system rates each aspect out of 100, to kind of give a greater impression of how relative I feel one game is to another. Without further ado, I begin my review of Metroid!

Gameplay - 95/100

Fluid and predictable controls lend to a very strong game, which it takes even further by having a large map, lots of satisfying upgrades, and a memorable cast of characters. You start as a fairly weak Samus Aran, armed with just her power suit capable of firing weak, short-range energy bullets and 30% Energy. Right off the …
