Definitely Not Paradise

Story:
There is no story, this game is a pure time killer game. The goal is simply to jump around as a tiny insect like creature and collect spectra. There are 5 spectra per level. Since this is a PSN game, what more do you really expect?

Presentation:
The graphics are unique, almost a trip back to the 70's will vibrate color and hallucinogenic effects. By no means are the graphics stunning, but it definitely gives a certain feel to the game that I'm sure the developers wanted to set it apart. The soundtrack is geared toward almost techno in nature, and can be quite annoying at times. But maybe that was there goal, to get you rushing and distracted by the music to make the game more difficult. Even the graphics at times can make it harder to identify things, making the game ha...

Is This Enjoyable While Sober?

“PixelJunk Eden” (“Eden”) is the third PSN game developed and published by Japanese Indie developer, Q-Games. Q-Games has made a concerted effort to ensure that each game in their ‘PixelJunk’ franchise, aside from those with a numeral in the title, is a different genre. Then there’s “Eden,” a so-called 2D platformer. When I purchased “Eden” from the PSN store, I had not yet discovered the Indie games movement, and my only previous experience with the ‘PixelJunk’ series was frustration from the tower defense of “Monsters.” Thus my rationale of purchasing “Eden” because it was ‘cheap’ and ‘ol...

This Eden is No Paradise

It's the monthly-ish multiplayer review, and this time it's a PSN game - one of the earlier games in the PixelJunk cannon - I had played it briefly before, but this time we tackled the whole thing. While the game has its moments, it certainly wears out its welcome fast and though it tries to throw some twists at you, they end up more annoying than interesting and in the end this game is only good in very small doses.

Presentation: The game is basically a highly-stylized 2D platformer. The animation style is nice - it mixes color, shapes and background in interesting ways. There are just 10 levels, but they manage to create unique worlds - though not all of the combinations work (I'm looking at you level 8). The game also features ten levels filled with techno music. Now, if you'...
