Another beautiful looking Zelda game that lacks the darker edge of the best instalments and so I personally prefer Twilight Princess - which you can also play without the expense of buying a Motion Plus, unlike this.

A Couple Problems Away from Being Great

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword had a few too many problems to keep this good game from being great.

The story is different but still the same. You need to defeat evil in order to save the world and Zelda. The boss you encounter through most of the game is mysterious and not that scary, and the rest of the story was ok, not great.

The world is a bit lacking. There's a forest, desert, and volcano you journey through and you have to go through it multiple times. To me it may be the smallest Zelda environment out of all the games which was disappointing.

Great Elements to the Game
1. WiiMotion Plus - While they may have used it a bit too much, overall it was great. I didn't have the problems a lot of people have written about, or at least I wasn't annoyed by it. Fighting e...

A Step Backwards in Time

Five years after Nintendo launched the Wii with a waggle-fied port of the Gamecube ‘Zelda’ game, “Twilight Princess” as a launch title, they have finally released a true Wii ‘Zelda’ game in the form of “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword” (“Skyward Sword”). While the motion controls added to “Twilight Princess” offered tantalizing tastes of what might be done in a fully motion-controlled ‘Zelda’ game, it wasn’t until the development and release of the Wii MotionPlus gyroscopic add-on that Nintendo felt confident in releasing such a game to their dedicated fans. After years of minimalizing the motion-controlled aspects of their first-party games, could Nintendo finally show the world that the investment in motion was as revolutionary and game changing as they ...

I calculate a 99% probability this annoys you.

It seems like every semi-recent console Zelda game has had a reputation to live up to, or some defining attribute that colors how we anticipate the game.

- Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda game in three dimensions. How would it play? Will it still feel like Zelda?

- Majora’s Mask... I dunno... it was a sequel, we’ll act like that was a big deal. Plus it REQUIRED the Expansion Pack.

- Wind Waker was the game that challenged our notions of what Zelda “should” look like. How will the art style handle the material? Can we still take this game seriously?

- Four Swords was the first Zelda multiplayer. Does this even count? How is THIS going to feel like a Zelda game?

- Twilight Princess was looking like just a game to make up for Wind Waker’s graphics... until...

^Actually, that is more like the sound that plays when Link opens a chest and finds 5 Rupees.

Imagine, if you will, the tune that plays upon acquiring an item in a Zelda game:

Sadly, it's not the replacement disk it should be, but I guess you just can't ask for a whole lot from Nintendo.
