Although limited by its oval-based tracks - which usually spell boredom for the virtual driver - Indy Racing 2000 is a racing game that's genuinely fun to play. Dispensing with the usual formula of learning the intricacies of the tracks, this game concentrates on pure racing with sensitive but precise controls, a great sensation of speed and aggressive AI cars that behave like actual competitors rather than moving obstacles. The result is a thrilling combination of weaving through the field while battling with other cars and feeling like you're always driving on the ragged edge. Add a series of challenges set in the "lower leagues" to add a little depth and variety and this is easily the best straight racer on the N64. |
