Satisfy Your Old-School RPG Thirst

Cthulhu Saves the World is an old-school throw-back turned-based parody RPG done right.

Cthulhu loses his devastating powers and must become a true hero to get them back. Cthulhu sets out on an adventure to figure out how to get them back. He'll team up with several great characters, including a living sword, cat, and a dragon. Will he destroy the world when he regains his power?

Presentation
Cthulhu Saves the World is an intentional throw-back RPG, utilizing sprites and turned-based battles, which is all probably closest to an 8-bit Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest) style. It stays true to the style we know and love.

Gameplay
There are several great features that makes for great game play.

Sprint mode - no need to walk around the world agonizingly slow. I use...

Cthulhu Saves the Turn-Based RPG Genre

For all the ultra-violent, hyper-realistic, overindulgence of Moe games out there, sometimes you just want to go old school. And, thanks to the fine folks at Zeboyd Games, you can relive that first RPG experience and throw in an excellent dose of humor and general craziness to go with it. A nice bit of nostalgia coupled with an inspired storyline (ripped out of one of my favorite mythos) is a recipe for success.

Presentation:

An 8-bit game in an HD era might turn off some people. Those people are idiots. Cthulhu is an excellent game that is equal parts homage and ingenuity. The homage part co...

Taking the ‘J’ out of RPG

Zeboyd Games, a Western Indie company consisting of two dudes and a love of old-school gaming, specializes in comical visual novels and turn-based RPGs. The very existence of the company is also a credit to the Xbox Live Indie Games program, which allowed the duo to feel-out the market for parody games without a significant financial commitment. Thanks to the success of “Cthulhu Saves the World” (“CSW”), Zeboyd’s second turn-based RPG, on Xbox Live, the company was able to build enough Kickstarter funding to create an enhanced version of the game for distribution via Steam, which ended up being even more successful than the original release. Regularly priced at $3 for a two-pack, Zeboyd’s games are so inexpensive that anyone seeking a new turn-based RPG in 7th Generation (wher...
