Synopsis:

Answering a distress call from a far-flung mining planet, the S.S. Pinita Colada sends manned rescue craft into the tunnels to investigate. Piloting these craft, up to two player can cooperatively work to rescue trapped miners while fighting-off indigenous creatures and manipulating the environment to their benefit. Dynamic fluid physics allow water, magma, volatile gas, and magnetic oil to interact in interesting ways.

A nice little twin stick shooter with plenty of levels offering a blend of blasting and simple puzzles. Nice to look at and reasonably good fun but I couldn't help the feeling that it would've been a minor classic with the inclusion of Gravitar style physics. Pretty good as it is though.

When is a SHMUP not a SHMUP?

“PixelJunk Shooter” is the fourth in the line of 2D throwback games released exclusively on PSN by Q-Games. With the exception of their first attempt, PixelJunk games have gleaned a lot of praise and respect for Q-Games, largely due to the fact that, while each PixelJunk game ostensibly belongs to an existing genre (specifically isometric racer, tower defense, platformer, and SHMUP), they each put a unique twist on their genre's traditional gameplay to make something unique. “PixelJunk Shooter” is no exception.
