Some people really, really disliked this entry into the Mario series. Now, while it did have its faults, I can't see why anyone would hate it - the water cannon thing is different, but not bad. The controls could have been better and some of the bonus areas are insidious - it was way too cheerful for me, however.

"Super Mario Sunshine"

Being very pretty and rather quirky, Super Mario Sunshine takes the basic premise of Mario 64 and gives it a sandbox-style environment that makes it feel very similar to Banjo Kazooie...although not quite as good. Jumps can be unnecessairly awkward - especially when you're against the clock - and the camera can be erratic so for those reasons it does not feel as "special" as some of the other Mario games. But it is still a damn fine game in its own right if judged on its own merits.

A Bad Change of Pace for Mario

Super Mario Sunshine has a lot of similarities to Super Mario 64, which I think is the best game of all time. However, the differences between the two games are what makes this one of, if not the worst console console Mario games.

First is the story. I don't need some political message in my Mario game. Not to say that pollution isn't bad and we as a society shouldn't work on it, but to have a game based on that did not bring me in. The characters you interact with in town are cheesy as well.

Second, and most important, is the water cannon. It's alright to have water in parts of a Mario game, but it shouldn't be designed around it. Simply put, water slows down a game. When you're in water you slow down. When you spray water it slows you down. When you fill water it slows yo...
