A Breath of Fresh Adventure

Breath of the Wild deviates from the traditional Zelda formula and storytelling. Set in the new expansive kingdom of Hyrule, Link awakens from a century-long slumber and needs to recover his memories and slowly discovers he needs to defeat the menacing Calamity Ganon and save Hyrule. The story unfolds gradually and non-linearly, allowing players to uncover the mysteries of the world at their own pace. The non-linear approach to storytelling is a departure from the series' conventions, but does allow the player to explore, unlock memories of the past, and discover and unlock the mysteries of Hyrule's looming fate. Not all the main story quests are required to be completed, but you do paint a more complete picture and get full enjoyment of the game if you complete them all.

The Legendary Breath of the Wild

The 2017 release of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BOTW) came with much fanfare and anticipation. It debuted on both the Nintendo Switch and the dying Wii U. Since its inception it has become one of the best-selling games of all time, currently sitting at 29.5 million copies sold (according to the list on Wikipedia). This open world action-adventure game promised much to fans, and it does not, for the most part, disappoint.

Story

4.5 out of 5

The primary plot of BOTW involves Link awakening after 100 years to world threatened by Calamity Ganon. His primary quest is to purge four Divine Beasts of Ganon’s influence and secondarily to rediscover memories of the past. The quests are simple but effective. Despite the endless possibilities with an o...

Break of the Weapons

After decades of other videogame development outfits ripping off all of Nintendo’s original, often genre-defining ideas, it’s Nintendo’s turn to do the copying. Thanks to resurgent Western – specifically PC – game development over the course of the last decade, mainstream gamers have come to expect certain things from their Action/Adventure titles thanks to the likes of Ubisoft and Bethesda Softworks… things that traditional ‘Legend of Zelda’ games didn’t deliver. After the underwhelming reception of “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword” on the Wii, Nintendo took a step back and apparently decided that the old chestnut, “If you can’t beat them, join them,” was apropos of their then-current situation. Thus 6 years later, “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild...

A Major Step Forward For The Series

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild revolutions the series with it's huge world and provides a wonderful experience making it truly a masterpiece.

Throughout the years, The Legend of Zelda series has gone in several different directions but always provided a great experience and story to play through. For me, ever since the original on the NES I've wanted a 3D game that let's go wherever you want and see the world how you want to see it. Ever since 3D Zelda games came about on the N64, we haven't gotten that. You'd be limited to one area of the map until you got a certain weapon, then a new area would be opened up to you. Finally with Breath of the Wild you get that chance. You choose where to go. You choose what to explore and when. It really empowers you and it's a great f...
