Dungeon Defenders II   PC (Steam)

Fun Tower Defense    3.5/5 stars

Dungeon Defenders II is a tower defense game combined with hack 'n slash play, which complements each other well. This is the second game of this game series, and Trendy focused on having micro transactions in this new game. Luckily, they've done it right, you really only need to spend money if you love buying costumes to deck out your characters.

Story:
Dungeon Defenders has never been known for having a good story, and this second game is no different. This is an area Trendy could improve upon to really bring this game together.

Presentation:
The graphics are really nice, very cartoon-like, and an improvement over the first Dungeon Defender game. If you are a fan of this style of graphics, it won't disappoint. Music is also decent.

Gameplay:
Trendy, after many rounds of updates, has finally done a pretty good job on the game play. They ironed out controller support, including using the controller in the menus. Given all the options you can do when you build out your defense and during play, the controller is pretty easy to get used to. I think Trendy has always done a good job of including hack 'n slash in these tower defense games, so you are always busy during the course of a level, so you never get bored.

Coop:
Cooperative play is a big part of this game. So be prepared to find some friends, it will be a lot more fun. Luckily, Trendy did a good job to balance this out, you can solo play it no problem.

Originality:
Tower defenses are nothing new, and this isn't much different. The story is lacking, and it really is just a re-make of the first Dungeon Defenders with many improvements and updates.

Replay Value:
If you like grinding to get the best gear possible, and like their idea of ascension points, there is a lot of reply value. It takes a long time to grind out the best gear and skill points on all your characters. But there are limited maps to play. I wish Trendy would put more effort coming out with new maps to play.

Recommendation:
If you like tower defense, especially combined with hack 'n slash, check out this game. It's even more fun with friends, and you can join randoms online to get a taste of cooperative play.
