How would they make that backwards compatible?  Plus, it sort of seems anti-playing-with-people- in-the-same-room that's been Nintendo's bread and butter for so long (on top of being their main excuse for the embarassing online play).

This seems a little far-fetched.  Plus, it doesn't make sense with a lot of the other rumors that have been out... HD graphics, better hardware than the 360 or PS3... those things would be a waste if you're only ever looking at a 6 inch screen.

I don't want to believe this rumor either, but Nintendo HAS disappointed in the past.

More powerful than HD Twins = Needs all that horsepower to transmit different instances of a game to multiple controller screens.

HD graphics = Tiny screens at 1080p.

The odd rumor about the controller acting as a sensor bar might have something to do with BC on a handheld screen.

The codename Project Cafe could relate to the fact that people can sit anywhere in the general area and still participate in the experience while absorbed in their own private tiny screen.

Really, I'm just playing devil's advocate here. It would be a truly stupid idea that would only be marketable in places like Korea that are absolutely obsessed with Internet Cafes.

I just don't see the same company that thought 6 years ago that you didn't need 720p on a TV in your living room now thinking you need 1080p on a six inch screen.

Nintendo has made some mistakes, but this move would almost entirely take them out of the business of traditional video game consoles.  They'd be selling people a portable device that you couldn't take anywhere but your house.  You're essentially selling... what... an iPad or an NGP with less portability?

Anything goes with Nintendo, they've brought us the DS, Wii, and Virtual Boy, so they're used to making products outside the norm, but I think some of the other rumors make this hard to envision, still.  If this console is targeting the hardcore crowd again, why something so gimmicky?  How do they manage the cost of something big enough to properly display 1080p so that I can buy 2-3 extra controllers to play with friends?

I'll stay in the list of extremely skeptical, but I was that guy that was hoping Wind Waker actually wasn't going to look like that, too.

All I know is, the smaller the screen, the less likely I am to play a game on it. That's why I've gotten out of the handheld market - I just don't like the size anymore. If Nintendo actually shoots themselves in the foot and goes that route, I agree with Nelson, I am so out. 04/28/2011

The latest rumors say this thing will have an 8GB internal NAND, like the Wii's, instead of a hard drive.

8GB is kind of small... It's the same size as the SD card I use in my Wii.

At this point, putting 8 GB of memory in the unit would be kind of like putting 512 MB of storage in the Wii... essentially pointless.

I'm still gonna try and have faith Nintendo actually learned from their last mistake and hope the rumor proves false.

Anything under 40 GB is literally an insult.  I mean I would actually be offended.

If Nintendo is serious about competing with PS3 and Xbox 360, they better be serious about upgrading their hardware. They can't hope to compete if they continue to live in the past - and 8GB is definitely the past - even 40GB is only adequate if you ask me but at least it would be adequate. 05/08/2011

8GB is great if Nintendo's only thinking about game saves and some DLC.

The only reason the PS3 and 360 need so much space is for patches and installs.

Players get a more immersive game experience. You can use the controller as a pull-out menu with a game, either by giving you a different view of the game or, say, the aiming screen for a shooter. 07/07/2011
