So, this makes it pretty clear Nintendo doesn't plan anything any more.

They didn't even grab WiiU.com early on.  Idiots.

From what I have read elsewhere, the Cyber-Squatter sitting on WiiU.com registered that domain way back in the 1990s. I don't think Nintendo could conceivably plan that far ahead with a console name...

But it was dumb of them to go ahead and release the console with that name before nailing down all the associated bits of IP. Is WiiU really THAT great of a name that Nintendo needed to use it when they didn't own the URL? No, no it's not a great name.

It's a terrible name.  Part of the problem with the Wii U was that half of the people out there that might have been the "market" had no idea if it was an add-on or a new console.  I had actual gamers that I had to explain it to.

I think they wanted to keep the "Wii" name to appeal to all those grandmas out there they assumed were going to dive back in and turn into a renewal revenue source.  They were familiar with the word "Wii", and they know so little about video games we can't come up with a new name, 'cause it'll confuse and scare them.

And... it backfired.  But don't get me wrong, there's lots of reasons the Wii U is sinking.

I'm just so glad Nintendo is hell-bent on makings sure their entire business model depends on grandmas having fun.

News gets worse.  Not just that the Wii U was pulled from a chain, but the fact that the Wii U sold only 160,000 units world-wide from April-June.  And..the Wii sold more units during that period.
