So, as we approach the close of 2012, it is once again time to reflect on the year in gaming. While I played plenty of games this year, I admit most of the games I played this year, were, well, older. However, I do have at least two games I would submit:
Diablo III - Despite the outrage over having to be connected to the Internet 24/7 - the game is solid and quite enjoyable. I will still pop it in every now and then to play simply because it's a game that really has no true stopping point - you can always strive for a higher level, a better piece of armor or weapon or just start a new character.
The Walking Dead - The latest game I completed is also one of the best of the year. A phenomenal story and characters elevate this beyond a mere adventure game. It helps if you're a fan of the series, but even if you are not - this is a great experience.
State your own case below for what you consider the finest example of gaming this year - we have PC now, so it's not just limited to consoles anymore. |

I didn't play a lot that came out IN 2012. I REALLY wish I could have gotten to Far Cry 3, and Darksiders II to see if they deserved mention. I haven't finished Halo 4, and Borderlands 2 is great, but not Game of the Year material. And also, something tells me I really need to play Awesomenauts.
My top nomination for game of the year is Mass Effect 3. No other franchise in the last generation has raised the bar for video games the way Mass Effect has, and Mass Effect 3 was the best of the bunch. Played properly, Mass Effect 3 wasn't the 3rd game in the series, it was more like the 3rd episode of one game. Having all 3 games so deeply entwined with each other made for a pretty unique and personal experience that helped you actually get attached to the game. Easily the most I've been sucked in by a game this generation, and maybe ever. |

Could add Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Halo 4, Borderlands 2, and maybe Far Cry 3, simply because of the popularity. Not sure what else would even be worth it for 2012??? |

I would consider Halo 4 and Far Cry 3 because it seems like they did more than was required for being just another entry in the series. I'm not hearing similar things about Black Ops 2, though.
My feelings about Borderlands 2 are already vocalized. |

I too think The Last Story for the Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U should be the discussion. |

Well, it looks like "The Last Story" won the MeltedJoystick Game of the Year 2012.
Thank you, dear readers, for renewing at least some of my faith in gamers at large! |
