Fun With Friends |
|
Dokapon Kingdom goes back to my roots of what I believe a true RPG should be, a turn-based RPG. What makes it even more attractive is the fact that it allows for local multiplayer, so you can play it with your friends. This RPG is like any other traditional turn-based RPG where you are traveling through a kingdom fighting invading monsters, gaining experience and goodies along the way.
Story:
The main goal, to have more money than your friends by the end of the game so you win the hand of the princess, which can even happen if you choose to play a female role (which may be to your liking?). Quests are given by the King, and many of them cause competition between your friends to see who can please the King first. The story is nothing amazing, and pretty typical of this type of gam... |

Capitalism: How Does It Work? |
|
“Dokapon Kingdom” is a member of the obscure, yet venerable, ‘Dokapon’ series of games that began on the SNES with the never-released-outside-of-Japan title, “Dokapon 3-2-1,” developed by Asmik Ace. Released in 2008 on both the aging PlayStation 2 and the two-year-old Wii (and followed a year later by a DS sequel/port), “Dokapon Kingdom” is the first proper game in the Dokapon series to see the light of day outside of Japan, this time developed by Sting. And by ‘proper’ Dokapon game, I mean a game that fuses the disparate elements of Party Game and RPG (whereas there have been several other games to bear the ‘Dokapon’ name that are either all RPG or all Party Game).
As a Party Game, “Dokapon Kingdom” naturally places a great emphasis on multi-player. In orde... |

Dokapon Kingdom: Fun & Frustration Hand-in-Hand |
|
What happens when you combine Mario Party with a traditional RPG? You get Dokapon Kingdom - which provides many hours of entertainment - some of them infuriatingly frustrating - that will either have you smirking with glee or pulling your hair out in frustration.
The main story is that monsters have taken over towns all over the world and The King needs heroes... and he also wants lots of money. Plus the princess needs to be married - so he sends (up to four) heroes on a quest to liberate towns, defeat monsters and become the richest cad around.
You have a spin wheel that goes from 0-6, and you move accordingly. Most spaces you fight a monster, but there are also magic, item, money and locked spaces - weapon, item and magic shops - churches and the important towns. Towns start off ... |
