Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Answers

How are the Top Game Lists selected?
The video game lists are compiled using a ratings weighted scale of 70% MeltedJoystick members game ratings and 30% members game lists. Games that appear on the most member top game lists as well as top genre lists receive the highest weight. Additional information about game lists is unavailable at this time.

What is my member status ranking and how can I change it?
Your member status ranking is a way to measure how active you are on MeltedJoystick. You can view your ranking in the upper right hand corner underneath your image. The way you obtain a higher ranking is to rate games, write reviews, and create top movie lists. For more info on member status rankings see the points page. The point structure is outlined below:

Point Structure:

Rating a video game on a 0 5 star scale: 1 point

Creating a game List: 1 point

Quick game review (under 350 characters length): 3 points

Full game review (over 350 characters length): 5 points

Ranking Structure and Benefits:

Ranking Points Needed What it Means
Casual Gamer 0-49 You haven't played many games, and those you have played are simply time-fillers. When people around you chat about the latest gaming news, you chime in about how great your 'Farmville' farm is doing. Most of your gaming hours have probably been spent playing 'Windows Solitaire.'
Newbie Gamer 50-99 The current console hardware generation is probably your first. You've never heard of Link or Mario, and you mostly buy licensed games based on your favorite movies. You need guidance to prevent your horrible taste from driving you away from gaming.
Mainstream Gamer 100-249 You know there's more to gaming than 'Bejeweled' and 'WiiSports,' but your lack of experience means you depend on advertising departments to tell you what you like. Thus, you think any game with an ESRB rating lower than "M" is "kiddy." You need to stop worrying about how "cool" you are and form your own opinions.
Regular Gamer 250-499 You've played enough different games in different genres that you're beginning to learn what's good and what's not. You make disparaging remarks about movie tie-in games, but still can't resist the hype machine for "AAA Titles."
Avid Gamer 500-999 You have matured as a gaming hobbyist. You read reviews, you do research, and you form your own opinions, which you are quite willing to share. You no longer have to visit GameStop on a weekly basis to unload crap you accidentally bought.
Hardcore Gamer 1000-4999 You enjoy lots of different games, but you also know what you don't enjoy. You complete almost every game you buy, often in the first week after release. When you're not playing games, you're reading or arguing about them on the Internet. Your ghostly pallor and calloused thumbs are testaments to your dedication to the hobby. You may have caused a joystick to melt.
Gaming God 5000+ You have finished more games than anyone else in your peer group and own even more games than that. Your staggering backlog just keeps growing, as you strive to fully experience each game you play so you can share your insights with others. From the top of your lofty pedestal atop your mighty high-horse atop your ivory tower, you gaze down upon the sea of games and can immediately glean the gold from the dross. Joysticks melt in your presence.

How do I reorder my game lists?
All game lists can be reordered by dragging and dropping the game title into the desired list position. You can get to your lists by selecting the my game lists link on your profile navigation, just below the main navigation bar. This link contains your top game list as well as any other game lists that you create.

What kind of reviews or other content might be removed?
MeltedJoystick is a site for top quality game information. We encourage everyone to write as many reviews as possible, but please only write reviews which are helpful in nature. It is the administrator's discretion to delete reviews. Your review may be deleted due to any or more of the following reasons:

  • The review contained offensive content and was inappropriate
  • The post or comment was offensive and reported as such by our members and site visitors
  • The review contained false information in an attempt to defy, manipulate or offend MeltedJoystick users
  • The post or comment disrupted the graphical nature of the site. This includes but is not limited to look, feel, design, style, or graphical misplacement
  • The review did not contain any useful information and was deemed a comment more than a review

The deletion of a review, post, or comment does NOT have to meet the above standards in order for it to be permanently removed from the site. If the above repeatedly occurs, a member could be banned from MeltedJoystick.com indefinitely.

What behavior is inappropriate and unacceptable?
MeltedJoystick administrators encourage as much user interaction as possible. We encourage users to discuss games in a constructive manner that does not disrupt the nature of the site. People are passionate about video games and once in a while, a heated discuss occurs. We understand. But, MeltedJoystick does not allow the following and users may be banned by administrator's discretion:

  • Trolling - someone who intentionally posts controversial or contrary messages in an online community such as MeltedJoystick.com, with the intention of baiting users into an argumentative response.
  • Offensive Content - racial slurs, derogatory comments, sexist posts, bigotry, etc....
  • Spamming - Soliciting other users to join, buy, go to, or interact with another website that may or may not be a direct competitor. Basically, pushing another website onto another person forcefully or not.

It is up to the site administrator to determine the extent of the above and if it warrants a permanent ban.

What browsers are supported?
We have tested and support Opera version 9, Fire Fox versions 1.5 + and Internet Explorer version 7+. Though most features work on Safari we currently do not offer any support for members using that browser nor has MeltedJoystick been developed for mobile devices yet.

We recommend upgrading to Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 3 to get the best results when using this site.
