A Fun Look Back for the RPG Fan

The idea behind Evoland is so simple, yet so effective, it's amazing someone hadn't thought of it before. It's essentially a game that takes you through a brief history of the way we play RPGs - from Dragon Quest and Zelda through Diablo - and so many in between. Though the game is relatively short - it's still a very fun way to pass a few hours of your life as both the references and humor make things more than worth it.

Presentation: The game does great in this department. Pretty much you collect various treasure chests throughout the game that change the look of things - from 2D battles to 3D exploration - health bars, inventory, extra party members - you run the gamut from classic 16-bit days up to modern hack n slash developments. A Brief History of Our Times.

“Evoland” was originally created by French Indie developer, Shiro Games, in less than 48 hours as part of the 2012 Ludum Dare competition, which it won. After refining this rough project and adding a few coats of polish, Shiro Games put it up for sale via digital distribution while leaving the original Ludum Dare version, now known as “Evoland Classic” up for free in-browser play.
