Welcome back to another installment of the MeltedJoystick Review Round-Up. Here’s what our staff has reviewed since last time:
Nelson’s Reviews:
Winter saw our co-op gaming increase significantly from the previous quarter, thanks in large part to the release of the WiiU. Of course, after blasting through 3 WiiU games, we’re out of ammo now and the system will be collecting dust until at least June (provided “Pikmin 3” doesn’t get pushed back again). Outside of co-op games, I went hardcore Indie during the Winter, experiencing a wide range of quality (or lack thereof) in the process. I also continued diligently chipping away at my backlog, chiseling out a significant amount of the 5th and 6th Gen layers of strata.
“Super Mario Bros. X” – 5/5
“Torchlight 2” – 3/5
“The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings – Enhanced Edition” – 3/5
“Beyond Good & Evil HD” – 2.5/5
“Brave Fencer Musashi” – 2/5
“New Super Mario Bros. U” – 4/5
“Musashi: Samurai Legend” – 3/5
“Wanderlust: Rebirth” – 1/5
“Grandia 3” – 2/5
“Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed” – 4/5
“The Adventures of Darwin” – 4.5/5
Chris’ Reviews:
Chris is still trying to play too many games at the same time, and has thus had trouble finishing anything outside of co-op. He did manage to wrap up one game on his own this quarter, at least. In a couple of our co-op games, though, he wasn’t really feeling the joy and could only be bothered to toss-in a token Quick Review instead of his usually-detailed work. I can’t say I blame him!
“Torchlight 2” – 3.5/5
“Batman: Arkham City” – 4.5/5
“Nintendo Land” – 3/5 (Quick Review)
“New Super Mario Bros. U” – 4/5
“Wanderlust: Rebirth” – 1.5/5 (Quick Review)
“Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed” – 3.5/5
Nick’s Reviews:
Nick was a terrible, lazy bastard this past quarter. Despite playing all of the same co-op games as the rest of us, he didn’t submit a single review… not even a Quick Review! His “Dungeon Defenders” obsession has become completely unhealthy, and he continually pushes back the promised date of his 5000-word review because Trendy Entertainment keeps releasing more and more broken DLC for the game… and Nick can’t/won’t review it until he has ‘gotten a feel for’ all of the new DLC.
*sigh* and *facepalm*
In lieu of posting links to Nick’s nonexistent reviews, here is a picture of what his deadline clock must look like.
Featured User Review:
This quarter’s featured user review winner is prominent site member and frequent comment troll, Jonzor, for his review of “Defense Grid: The Awakening.” While Jonzor had three equally-good review submissions this quarter, his “Defense Grid: The Awakening” review won out because it was of “Defense Grid: The Awakening!” Obscure games need someone to review them, lest they remain obscure forever. “AAA” games will get reviews from everyone, so in reviewing a niche Tower Defense game for PC, Jonzor performed a service to that game’s developers as well as all those Tower Defense junkies who might never have heard of it otherwise. Well done!
