Files :: Video Game Review (3.5/5 Stars) Fri, 19 Apr 2019 07:17:42 -0500 Two full adventures based upon the F.E.A.R. formula of blasting things that go bump in the night. Basically like Black crossed with Silent Hill, it's atmospherically dark and dank and the bullet time device works quite well. It feels a little dated because the physics aren't quite right - everything feels a little insubstantial - and the graphics lack polish, but it plays quite well and although ... read more Shadowrun Returns :: Video Game Review (3.5/5 Stars) Tue, 16 Apr 2019 17:50:42 -0500 In 1989, tabletop gaming was both at a high point and on the precipice. While TSR, the company founded by Dungeons & Dragons co-creator, Gary Gygax, was in the midst of financial woes that would ultimately lead to its doom, it was also producing a lot of comparably weird stuff, at least when compared side-by-side with the relatively sedate and stable High Fantasy and historical material it had pr... read more Kirby Star Allies :: Video Game Review (3.5/5 Stars) Tue, 16 Apr 2019 15:09:10 -0500 “Kirby Star Allies” is the latest game in the long-running ‘Kirby’ franchise, developed by Nintendo second-party, HAL Laboratory. With a long-term focus on relaxing gameplay and multi-player cooperative action, the ‘Kirby’ series has been a go-to for the MJ Crew for quite some time. However, our expectations weren’t met by this latest entry, which instead, left us feeling deflated. Presenta... read more DiRT :: Video Game Review (4.5/5 Stars) Mon, 15 Apr 2019 12:52:29 -0500 The Colin McRae series takes a leap forward and includes other forms of off-road racing including buggies, trucks and rally cross. The pyramid style of unlocking later challenges works well, there are heaps of vehicles, it's great to look at and the sense of speed, physics and realistic damage give it a real sense of driving on the ragged edge. One of the best racers on the Xbox 360. Crysis 3 :: Video Game Review (4/5 Stars) Sat, 13 Apr 2019 08:45:06 -0500 Very much more of the same, this time with more of a concentration on the alien invasion aspect. It's a little tougher, and therefore more reliant on stealth than the previous game but otherwise it will all be very familiar to fans. Crysis 3 is from the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school of sequels so if you liked the second instalment, you'll like this. Burnout Paradise :: Video Game Review (4/5 Stars) Fri, 12 Apr 2019 10:12:31 -0500 The Burnout series tries something different with a more sandbox-style approach and an attempt at greater realism. The graphics and physics are fantastic but its hampered by a poor navigation system that means you keep having to take your eye off the road, which combined with its far less forgiving collision detection means you spend a little too much time stuffed into the scenery. Still a great ... read more BioShock Infinite :: Video Game Review (3.5/5 Stars) Wed, 10 Apr 2019 10:43:07 -0500 The Bioshock series takes to the skies, but there's something a lot less atmospheric about airships than a claustrophobic, Jules Verne-esque undersea realm. It's still a pretty game with an interesting story but once again the Achilles heel is the profoundly irritating "respawning" that goes on when you die, which essentially makes combat a tedious exercise in trial and error rather than skill; m... read more Assassin's Creed: Revelations :: Video Game Review (3.5/5 Stars) Wed, 10 Apr 2019 10:38:29 -0500 Ezio parkour's through history once more, with a beautifully rendered Constantinople as his new home. The scenes set in modern times make for a change of pace, but otherwise there's little to choose between this and the previous game aside from yet more side missions and bells and whistles that actually add little to the narrative. It's still a great game, but if you already own Brotherhood, ther... read more Alien Breed: Evolution :: Video Game Review (3.5/5 Stars) Wed, 10 Apr 2019 06:21:03 -0500 Reboot of an old third person shoot 'em up viewed from overhead. The mission-based levels are a little repetitive and it's quite old fashioned but if you like retro-inspired blasters then it's quite good fun, and the closest most of us will get to becoming a Colonial Marine on LV426. Alien Breed: Trilogy on the XBox 360 bundles up all three games so you get a long of bang for your buck. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood :: Video Game Review (4/5 Stars) Tue, 09 Apr 2019 12:59:32 -0500 Another sprawling adventure through the bustling streets of a historic city, this time set in Renaissance Italy. Once again, the graphics are marvellous, the movement fluid and it has a really nice sense of period. Thankfully the cut scenes are scaled back somewhat so you actually feel like you're playing the game rather than watching it this time, although I did sometimes feel bogged down with t... read more
