They've posted job listings for hardware engineers in the Interactive Entertainment Business division. Make of that what you want... it would make sense that it's to work on a new console, but they'll never admit to it yet. |

Microsoft doesn't know when to quit. Of course there's going to be another Xbox. Though the question of when is extremely open. Those software engineers Jonzor mentioned could just be working on Kinect games. |

Well... I'm not gonna act like I know what it IS... but I doubt it's just another game:

I didn't catch that you said 'hardware' engineers in your original post. |

I'm guessing this must be very early in development - I'm actually very content with the current generation of systems but inevitably someone is going to take it to the next level. I'm guessing there's no solid info yet, but any ideas on what exactly they're going to do to make things better? Or better yet, what would you like to see in the next generation? |

Well... before each of these consoles were released, each company was trying to puff up their chest about how long-lived they planned for this generation to be (in part, I think, to justify the costs of the new generation). So they almost painted themselves into a corner and had to make sure that this generation lasted at least 7-8 years. This might be about the right time to start getting a staff together to begin development.
What do I want in a new generation?
1. Nintendo stops giving online multiplayer just lip service. Come on Big N, let's act like the internet actually exists.
2. Better hardware, but we're going to stop seeing the massive jump in graphical quality that we're used to. The next jumps are going to be number of objects on screen and better physics engines. I'm especially excited for the day when we start getting better at destructible environments.
3. Or, it would be nice if we get better hardware, but the real difference is the size of the machines and the cost. How nice would it be if, say, the next Xbox had slightly better hardware, was the size of a Wii, and was priced at like $300 at launch?
4. I know this is a pipe dream, but I'm sick of crappy d-pads on controllers. The PS3 d-pad is a joke, and the one on the 360 is only marginally better, though I haven't tried the new controller with the variable d-pad.
5. Inductive charging docks for controllers. This will never happen in the box with the console, because they'll sell the controller accessories separately. So how about ALL controllers come standard with plug-in recharging and then we get first party 2 and 4 controller inductive charging docks?
6. I'd rather NOT get carried away with motion controls. If you've got a legit idea, let's use it, but can we stop forcing motion controls into every game?
7. Head tracking! http://www.youtube.com/wa tch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw&fea ture=fvsr |

here is Jonzor's link again about a hint at new hardware development, this link works!

The hardest thing to figure out is how much to build into a new console and keep it reasonably priced. They could make a incredible sweet system, but people need to be able to afford it. That's the problem. |

I don't think any hardware developer cares about 'reasonably-priced' anymore.
599 US DOLLARS! |
