I agree with you alex.

These roms are on my wii via the homebrew channel that nelson referred to.

So basically you are using the wii controller horizontally... which is essentially the same setup as the original nes controller.

But the "2" button on the wii is now the "a" button and the 1 button is the "b" button.   and there's a button for start and select also.   For SNES games you need a "classic controller" add in to get the extra buttons.    ; For that reason I find the Wii is best suited to play straight NES games

I completely agree that on a computer the games are terrible.  On this type of setup it's 99% like playing your original nintendo.

If you are into retro gaming back to the SNES/NES/Genesis level you would enjoy having and hacking a wii if for nothing else but to have an archive of hundreds of NES/SNES/Genesis games.  Honestly you'd end up spending about $200-ish bucks for a used wii, second controller, and a 2GB SD card...  couple hours of work to hack it and get the roms and you'd have a very epic retro system, that I believe would perform significantly better than an original NES or SNES.

I think you can emulate N64 games, but the controller for that system was so unique that I think you'd have a negative gaming experience with that.

You're absolutely correct, zam. Actually, emulated NES games are far superior to the original system because:

1. You don't have to blow on anything to make it work.
2. Save states allow you to save in any game, even ones that didn't originally support battery back-up or passwords.
3. Region free access to foreign games, sometimes with fan-translation patches available.

Unfortunately, Wii64 isn't ready for prime-time yet. It can play a few of the N64 'staples,' but chokes or crashes on some of the better titles (like Paper Mario). I expect the next release to be much better.
