The company that brought us Blast Processing is best known for games featuring their mascot, a certain blue hedgehog (who shall remain nameless). Sega is also known for bungling, both with their endless stream of add-ons and too-soon console successors and with their inability since 2001 to make a blue hedgehog game without screwing up the core gameplay and/or adding horrible, fan-fiction-quality story segments. What most people overlook when examining Sega is that the company has a rock-solid track record for RPGs.
